Nail Care and Nail Surgery

What is an Ingrowing Toenail?

Is the side of your nail digging into your toe causing pain and infection? Has a nail thickened or deformed making closed-in shoes uncomfortable to wear? These are all signs of ingrowing nails.

A part of the nail or the whole nail can easily be removed to resolve these problems.

Assessment

We’ll check whether the condition needs temporary or a permanent solution
We’ll want to check and confirm that you are able to be given a local anaesthetic
We will explain the procedure and aftercare plan, giving you an opportunity to get answers to your questions

Surgical appointment

We’ll perform the surgery under local anaesthetic and with clinical support
After surgery, we’ll dress the wound
Remember – bring a friend or family member as you will not be able to drive or walk home!

Aftercare

We’ll arrange another appointment for two days after your surgery to review and re-dress the wound
It may be necessary to book further weekly reviews to ensure the wound is healing properly.

Fungal Nail Treatment

What is a Fungal Nail Infection?

Many people will develop a fungal nail infection at some point.  Developing slowly over time it discolours the nail and can make it thick and brittle.  It can be limited to a single nail or spread to infect all of them.

How can it be treated?

We offer the lacuna method for treating fungal nails.  A series of very small holes are drilled into the affected nails allowing the Lamisil anti-fungal treatment to penetrate through the nail and to the nail bed where the fungal spores are growing. Lamisil is applied on a daily basis until the nail is clear.

We also offer nail lacquers that can be painted on the nails on a weekly basis.  To make this option as effective as possible the brittle and loose nail is removed and thickened nails reduced.

Biomechanical Assessment

What is it?
In a biomechanical assessment we examine the way your lower limbs work. We check for abnormalities and possible causes of pain in the foot, ankle, knee and back

Why might you need one?
Very few people, if any, are completely symmetrical and this affects the way that people stand and move.
Differences in leg length, unusually high or low arches, or injuries can all put extra pressure on joints, ligaments and tendons. This can result in people suffering pain when they move or simply stand.
Once the causes of this pain are established we can recommend a variety of treatments, including exercise therapy, advice on footwear and provision of insoles to correct foot posture (the medical term is “orthotics”)

What’s involved in the biomechanical assessment?
Remember to bring your everyday shoes and trainers
Bring shorts to allow us to better assess you

Assessment:
Review existing medical conditions and medication
Non weight-bearing assessment of muscle and joint flexibility and movement
Static assessment of stance and foot posture whilst standing
    Dynamic gait analysis whilst walking
A combination of this analysis and clinical observation allows us to assess limb length discrepancies and the foot in motion.

Treatments:
    Exercise therapy
    Footwear advice
Provision of insoles to correct foot posture
Review appointment, typically after six weeks

We can also apply LCN Laqish to give your nails a lasting polish effect. Light cured so it sets instantly and lasts for weeks.

Toe Nail Reconstruction is also available. This revolutionary treatment will transform damaged nails or even missing toenails into a natural looking nail. Using the Wilde Pedique products a natural looking finish can be achieved in around 15 minutes. The nail will last for around 4 to 6 weeks in most cases with normal activities.

Verruca Treatment

What are Verrucas?

Small bumpy growths on the feet or hands, often with black dots on the surface, are caused by a virus that invades the skin through tiny cuts or scrapes.

Verrucas on the feet can become painful when they are in weight-bearing areas and they can be difficult to treat with over the counter treatments often failing.

What’s involved?

We take time to understand your existing medical conditions and medication, we’ll also undertake a diabetic suitability review.
We’ll discuss any questions or concerns you have about potential treatments
We will undertake a neuro-vascular assessment to measure sensation and circulation in order for us to be best informed to advise you on potential treatment options.
We’ll take a good look at your feet and undertake a full inspection for you.

Treatment Options

Single treatment under local anaesthesia lasting about an hour with two 15 minute review sessions
